Horse Training Equipment

The equipment and tack that you use to train your horse can make your job easier or harder.

Take one look through any tack shop or catalogue and you will see endless pieces of equipment tack, bridles, bits, halters, saddles, gadgets and devices.

So what gear do you really need?

If you understand how horses learn, and you have good timing, you need only a few well fitting pieces of tack.

You will need:

For groundwork:
- A rope halter
- A 12ft lead rope

For riding:
- A saddle that fits the horse
- A saddle cloth to go under the saddle
- A bridle that fits the horse & a snaffle bit
- A helmet & riding boots


These are really the basics that you will need to train your horse.

Optional extras that may also be useful:
- A 22ft rope lead
- A lunge whip
- A clicker and treat bag
- Work boots to protect your horses legs
